What I found most difficult to get used to was the lackof daylight. You see in Iceland for two to three monthsof the year, there is continuous daylight, but fromNovember to January there is an intensely dark periodwith only 2 to 3 hours of daylight per day. However, thebreathtaking experience of seeing the Aurora Borealis,or Northern Lights, made up for this state of almosttotal darkness. This is a spectacular sight which you canadmire especially well in Iceland on cold, clear nightsfrom September to March. The sky lights up with manydifferent colours caused by the interaction of particlesfrom the sun with the earth’s magnetic field
