Using earlier draft conventions already prepared by CITEJA, the ICAO Legal Committee resumed efforts to prepare a convention on the international recognition of rights in aircraft. In 1948, the second ICAO Assembly in Geneva adopted the Convention on the International Recognition of Rights in Aircraft, which was signed by 14 states and came into force on September 17, 1953.
Today, the Geneva Convention has been ratified by 87 States.
