Current mechanisms such as the Conference on Disarmament, the United Nations Disarmament Commission and the NPT review process provide an appropriate forum for the consideration and negotiation of nuclear disarmament issues. Starting from scratch with a new mechanism to address nuclear disarmament issues would only weaken the authority of the aforementioned mechanisms, divert valuable resources and throw the international nuclear disarmament process into disarray, without effectively carrying forward the nuclear disarmament process.
