Very interesting. Thank you for writing this.
I understand this is intended to inform (perhaps only that?) but Ramadan is a lot more than about food. You mention Charity, which is integral but its intended to highlight personal reflection. Every Muslim should be reflecting on their life, their contribution to their family and community and how they can better themselves.
Too often food becomes the hot issue but it really is a mind over body issue here. Humans can live without food and water for days so 15-18 hour fasts, though intense if you work full time jobs, are do'able.

I'm glad you mentioned this. Ramadan is more like self-purification through abstinence and extra worship (worshipping ranges from actual prayers to simple things like reading) as well as a reminder of our good fortunes. Muslims are guilty of little things that would seem contradicting to this, for example sleeping through the day (I'm guilty of that!) to binge-eating when it's time to break the fast. Still, Ramadan is unique for everyone and hopefully we each come out as a better person. For those who are not muslim, take advantage of the local iftars and understand a little bit more about Islam and culture and errr, the food also. Happy Ramadan to you all!!

Happy Ramadan!
I have never taken a fast, but in my part of the world we often get invited iftars.. There is almost no comparison to the variety of Muslim food in India during Ramadan.. Haleem to Biriyani, Samosas to Desserts.
