The spearmint scent of this candle is very strong when you take a whiff of the tin itself, and this makes for a noticeable aroma when actually burning it. My fiancee loves candles and generally buys Yankee brand, but she quite liked this one. The spearmint scent is very relaxing; my fiancee commented how it helped her fall asleep for a nap with a bad headache. It was probably the sleep that got rid of the headache, but the aroma of the candle helped her relax.

As a candle, though, this one is pretty small, and that makes it expensive. Yankee candles are much more expensive per unit, no doubt, but even with Yankee brand you get a bit more actual candle per dollar. If you're buying this just for the candle, you can find better value options elsewhere. The advantages of soy wax and the other ingredients used in this candle, though, is that they burn cleanly and mostly originate from sustainable sources. Your mileage might vary in terms of how much value this creates for you because there is no easy way to tell what materials competitors use, but it's nice knowing this is a fairly eco-friendly option except for the packaging, the tin + rubber bracelet. The manufacturer should consider more eco-friendly packaging options to create a real and complete "green" marketing angle.

The dual purpose of the soy wax, though, is interesting. The soy wax melted into a warm, oily liquid. The temperature of the oil, too, is lower than melted wax from a normal candle, so it's comfortable enough to just blow out the flame and use it. Soy oil is used commonly in the beauty and hygiene industries for its moisturizing qualities, and this oil is as good a product as any. Having to burn the candle to get the oil gives it a sort of novelty feel, but if you care to use the oil in this way, you certainly can. But you should be aware that using the oil on your skin will reduce the candle's burn time, since the oil is the candle's fuel. This ultimately makes the lotion / massage oil aspect something of a gimmick, since what you're basically doing if you use it this way is buying a block of skin care product.

We only tried the oil a couple times because we don't like the spearmint scent for a topical skin care product, but that's simply to do with the scent. The product works well in terms of function, though we don't feel the value is there at the regular price of $15.

All that said, it would be great if there were more scents available. And even though the product works well, you can't burn the oil *and* use the oil for skin care, meaning you're either buying a candle *or* lotion here--not both, since you end up using it one way or the other. For what it is in that sense, I'm fairly certain we could get another brand's similarly sized candle plus a separate soy based skin care product for less than the cost of two candles. This candle is a neat idea, but a lot of its value is sacrificed to novelty.
