Translation of Cultural References
•Cultural reference (CR): any reference to a cultural entity which, due to its distance from the target culture, is characterized by a sufficient degree of opacity for the target readers.
•Procedure: a method of translating. E.g. a cultural reference may be translated by a definition, a cultural substitution, a footnote, etc.
•Parameter: any factor (e.g. Readership, role of CR, frequency of CR, etc.) to be taken into account when selecting a procedure as part of strategy.
