I spent a good number of my childhood years in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where my father worked in the 80's. I was too young to be obliged to wear the abbayah, but the contrast of the culture there with my home country, the Philippines still fascinates me to this day. I will probably never return though as one cannot openly practice another religion in this country except for Islam.
I do love the people (as a kid you always get a free treat from the store keepers)! I hope I can get a hold of a copy of this film. Thank you so much for writing about this movie! - See more at: http://www.mercatornet.com/articles/view/wadjda_a_breakthrough_for_saudi_women#sthash.31ZYesZm.dpuf
