The Family and Consumer Sciences unit is accredited by the
American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. At the
undergraduate level, students prepare for careers in family and
consumer sciences and related professions concerned with individuals,
family development and consumerism.
The principal charge of the department is to provide resident
instruction, conduct research and provide community service. The
family and consumer sciences profession has a systematic body of
knowledge generated from its own resources as well as concepts from
other fields which members must master in order to assist individuals
and families as they work toward improving the quality of their lives.
