examined executives’ demand for flexibility. In 2008, almost 50 % answered that
they are operating in an environment that is more aggressive than ever, and this
situation continues in the 2010 survey. As a consequence, executives have to make
decisions faster than they have in the past. Asked whether EIS architecture design
should increase flexibility or lower costs, executives rate flexibility as ‘‘high’’ to
‘‘very high’’. While executives often viewed IS as a ‘‘cost pool’’ in the past, the
survey shows that they now consider flexibility to be of similar importance as cost
control (Fig. 2).
