Salima Sultana Begum, the third chief empress of the King, (she was married by Akbar after the assassination of Bairam Khan in order to protect her and son Abdul Rahim from further political discrepancies) can be seen in the most pitiable condition. She was the wife of Bairam Khan, Military Commander of Mughal Empire, whom she had to share with his first wife, Khanzada jamal Khan’s younger daughter and dearer to Bairam Khan. After the death of Bairam Khan’s first wife their son Rahim was handed over to her. She was not the mother of Rahim- fruit of passion between her own huband and his first wife; yet she had to take up the role of doting mother to Rahim.
