A few (new) guys don t know the history of this. My GSX-R thanks to it s mileage on the clock is worthless, no one is going to touch it, and would be easier to sell broken up. But it still runs, so I still ride it.There is lots of BS about bikes, what manufactures say, in magazines, by shop staff, and by riders themselves. One myth is you can t use car oil in motorbikes, you must uses special motorbike oil because it is special. Well, as a general statement, that is a load of BS. Some bikes are picky what sort of oil they run, and the only 1st hand response of when it didn t work was a car mechanic on here, who put the expensive fully synthetic oil (free from work) used is hot Audi s in his sportsbike, and it killed the clutch, and had to replace them. Then again, if you put bike mineral oil in a Desmo, I am sure it wouldn t run too well either.... A lot of things people say can not be backed up with fact. One I remember is Ducati engines only only last until 40k - well very few ovwers ride their enough to make it up to 40k, but I have never seen proof that they lunch themselves when they get up to that - it the thing that gets talked about at the pub, or on forums...So back to it, running on car oil IS fine, and has been for 18 months.
