The syllabus outlines seven objectives that guide specific objectives for each unit, andmust be demonstrated by students by the end of their course of study (Figure 2). Students areprovided with opportunities to demonstrate how well they have achieved the objectives throughthe course assessment (i.e., data tests, research investigations and experiments). While theassessment for Units 1 and 2 is formative and internal (school-based), the assessment for Units3 and 4 is summative. Fifty per-cent of the assessment for these units is internal, while theremaining 50% is external, and can contribute to the calculation of an ATAR for tertiaryentrance (QCAA, 2017).Figure 2.
