Other tracking methods that require environment preparationby placing devices are based on ultra wide band radiowaves. Active radio frequency identification (RFID) chipsmay be positioned inside structures such as aircraft [163] toallow in situ positioning. Complementary to RFID one canapply the wide-area IEEE 802.11b/g standards for bothwireless networking and tracking as well. The achievableresolution depends on the density of deployed access pointsin the network. Several techniques are researched by Bahland Padmanabhan [21], Castro et al. [41] and vendors likeInnerWireless11, AeroScout12 and Ekahau13 offer integratedsystems for personnel and equipment tracking in for instancehospitals.
